Z “The Dream” Gorres is recovering well at the Intensive Care Unit of the University Medical Center in Las Vegas following surgery to remove fluid from his swollen brain caused by a blood clot last Friday.

ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer reported from Las Vegas that Gorres is now able to follow commands and said “he opened his eyes a few times on his own and is able to move both legs on command.”

Aldeguer who spends hours in the hospital checking on the condition of the classy southpaw who collapsed at the end of a superb unanimous ten round decision over tough Luis Melendez of Colombia and was rushed to hospital where he was operated on immediately, also said Gorres “ moves his left arm on painful stimuli.”

Since Gorres didn’t suffer any neck injuries, the neck collar placed on him has been taken off.

Earlier, trainer Edito “Ala” Villamor and ALA Promotions vice president Dennis Canete joined Aldeguer in a visit to Gorres who opened one eye, smiled and gave a thumbs up sign, easing the concerns of the group following his tragic accident.

Although his career as a boxer, the fervent hope of respected ALA Gym patron Tony Aldeguer who nurtured Gorres’ career first as an outstanding amateur and then as a world-rated professional fighter, is that he can lead a normal and full life.

The flashy southpaw who put on the finest performance of his life in anticipation of  a rematch with WBO bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel is likely to remain in the US for some time to undergo post operative therapy.

Tony Aldeguer said they were having the papers of Gorres’ wife Duchess prepared so she could leave for the US once her husband was completely out of the induced coma.

At the same time Aldeguer said he had asked his son Michael to talk to the doctors to find out whether the rehabilitation could be continued in the Philippines because the family of Gorres is here and to remain in the US would be depressing for him.

Aldeguer thanked those who prayed for Gorres' recovery and requested that they continue to offer their prayers.

His career will probably be over but the greatness he showed in the ring will always be remembered and inspire Filipino warriors to come specially the Sugbuanons and the Boholano tribes. Live well and prosper Z Gorres.
