South Africa’s little Moruti Mthalane goes after the IBF flyweight titled vacated by Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire who moved up to the super flyweight division and is the current WBA Interim champion.
Mthalane, who earned the title shot after an impressive 3rd round knockout over fellow South African Lelohonolo Ramagole in a clash for the South African flyweight crown last April 18, will face Mexico’s Julio Cesar “Pingo” Miranda in Johannesburg on November 20 in a big fight card titled “African Pride” being staged by multi-titled promoter Branco Milenkovic.
The 29 year old Miranda has a record of 30-4-1 with 23 knockouts and in his last fight scored a cracking 1st round knockout over former WBC light flyweight champion Eric Ortiz who lost his title to Filipino Brian Viloria, the current IBF champion.
Miranda battled former Thai world flyweight champion, veteran Pongsaklek Wonjongkam in Thailand where he dropped a twelve round unanimous decision in a WBC Interim title fight on April 24, 2009 before getting a shot at Ortiz.
Although Mthalane was badly cut by Donaire in their title fight forcing the referee to call a halt the much smaller South African troubled Donaire with his style which made him a difficult target to hit.
