Promoter Lou DiBella is looking to place Kermit Cintron in the biggest fight possible, at welterweight or junior middleweight. Two fights DiBella says are possible would come against WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto and WBA junior middleweight champion Daniel Santos. DiBella is crossing his fingers that Cotto beats Manny Pacquiao on November 14. He doesn't think Cotto-Mayweather will happen but Cotto-Cintron in New York has a good shot of coming off. Cintron returned to action last Saturday in Puerto Rico, stopping Juliano Ramos. He weighed 150-pounds, leaving the door open for a big fight at 147 or 154.
"At this stage of Kermit's career, I'm looking for the best fight and the most money possible. If my hunch is correct, and Cotto is able to use his power to beat Pacquiao, I don't think a fight between Mayweather and Cotto will happen. Maybe we might see a Cotto and Cintron fight at Yankee Stadium - that would be my dream," DiBella told Primera Hora.
Another fight could come against Santos, who challened Cintron at a press conference last week. The two fighters traded insults before the media. Santos returns on the Cotto-Pacquiao undercard against Yuri Foreman. He needs to win the fight for the Cintron fight to be possible.
"We had fun at the press conference. Daniel told me that he wasn't trying to show disrespect. He was just looking to get some publicity, which I understand perfectly. If his promoter (Don King) wants to do the fight in Puerto Rico, Kermit against Santos would be a great fight. It would be very interesting, but must first he needs to beat Yuri Foreman," said DiBella.
