NONITO “Filipino Flash” Donaire Jr. and up-and-coming prospect Drian “Gintong Kamao” Francisco will have new opponents in their respective super flyweight title bouts under the World Boxing Association (WBA).

Francisco’s anticipated opponent from Panama, Rafael “El Torito” Concepcion opted to breach his contract when he signed a deal that will put him against Donaire for the WBA interim super flyweight title on Aug. 15 at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Concepcion replaces the original choice for the bout, WBA Fedelatin champion Hugo Fidel Cazares of Mexico.

Francisco will try to get Cazares for his re-scheduled Sept. 6 bout for the vacant WBA International super flyweight title at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City, Metro Manila.

But Francisco’s handler Elmer Anuran may look for another foe if Cazares will not be available. One fighter that comes to mind will be WBA No. 7 Roberto Vasquez.

Anuran initially considered bringing Concepcion to court of law for signing a contract under Bob Arum’s Top Rank when in fact he has legally binding agreement in Francisco’s bout.

“I let him go,” said Anuran after WBA’s Gilberto Jesus Mendoza, and people of Top Rank, as well as Concepcion’s handler Damon de Berry, talked to him Wednesday.

Anuran admitted that if it wasn't for Top Rank and Donaire, he might have insisted on asking for damages.

“I already booked his (Concepcion) team for a round-trip flights. I spent so much money for the publicity as well as thousands of pesos in the print and broadcast promotions,” said Anuran. “If Donaire wasn’t a Filipino and had Top Rank never talked it over with me, I might pursue my right.”

The card was originally dubbed “Banal na Paghihiganti” (Devine Retribution) to hype Francisco’s aim of showing that he is better than Concepcion’s 10th round knockout victim, AJ Banal, on July 26, 2008 in Cebu for the WBA interim super flyweight title.

The Concepcion-Concepcion bout was originally set on July 26, but swine flu scare prompted Anuran and his partner, Solar Sports, to postpone the date on Sept. 6.

This sucks, I was looking forward to Donaire-Cazares. It sounds as if Arum and co. have screwed Anuran over.
