According to promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank, talks have already begun for a potential meeting between WBC/WBO middleweight champ Kelly Pavlik and WBC/WBO/WBA super middleweight champ Joe Calzaghe, who decisioned light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins last month.

At the recent Los Angeles press conference to announce the June bout between Manny Pacquiao and David Diaz, Arum told reporters that he would like to set up a fight between Pavlik and Calzaghe.

Calzaghe is promoted by Frank Warren and trained by his father Enzo Calzaghe. Pavlik returns on June 7 in Atlantic City against mandatory challenger Gary Lockett, who is also promoted by Warren and trained by Enzo.

If Pavlik comes out on top, Arum will sit down that weekend with Warren and Ezno to work out a deal for Calzaghe-Pavlik. Arum also expects Joe Calzaghe to be at the fight to support his stablemate Lockett.

"Enzo is his trainer, and we expect Joe will be at the fight," Arum told BoxingScene's Kieran Mulvaney. "If Kelly wins, which we hope he will and we expect him to, then it sets up a fight against Calzaghe down the road."

Calzaghe has great interest in fighting Pavlik or Roy Jones Jr. in his next outing, but sources indicate that Jones is asking for a lot of money. Warren met last week with promoter Don King, who flew to the UK to negotiate a Calzaghe-Jones bout. At the end of the day, the best deal on the table is the one that Calzaghe will likely take.
Calzaghe is on the verge of retiring possibly 1-2 fights left with him.. Pavlik and Arum knows Joe will bring the biggest money on the table right now.. Even if Pavlik lose at 168, he can still go back to 160 and defend his titles.. I still believe Pavlik will beat him.... ...
Please explain your extreme hatred for Calzaghe. I mean I dislike Floyd's style of fighting and don't care much for his personality, but I don't hate the man.
I think his rep points tell you all you need to know lol, he gives us something to laugh at; you will never...
Nah. Calzaghe has lost at least 3 fights minimum. He said he lost his first amateur fight, then I saw a video of one of his last losses ever and he lost his final one a month after that.
Yep, you right, he thinks he lost one fair and square, the other couple of losses...
calzaghe would get ktfo
Based on???? Given the lack of boxing talent in an otherwise sport rich culture, I'd stick to cricket and Rugby League if that's the best prediction you can come up with.
To spur discussion.... Pavlik beat Taylor 1. Calzaghe beat Hopkins. Pavlik beat Taylor 2. Calzaghe beat Kessler. Pavlik beat Miranda. Calzaghe beat Lacy. Has Kelz already accomplished as much as Joey has?
No. Taylor is the only world-class fighter Kelly...
