Ibarra Causes a Stir By Calling Goofy Montes a "Maricon"

By Miguel Rivera

The tension is rising for Saturday's main event at the Olympic Coliseum in Guadalajara, Mexico - where super flyweight Juan José "Goofy" Montes (21-2, 14 KOs) will face countryman Oscar "Ceviche" Ibarra (27-5, 18 KOs). Televisa will broadcast the fight.

A war is expected after Ibarra made some offending comments to Montes, who is riled up and wants to defend his honor before the hometown crowd.

"I hope that Goofy Montes doesn't turn out to be a maricon [slang for homosexual], because I'm coming there fully prepared to stop him in his own land," Ibarra said. "In the ring it's going to be just me and him. The people will support him, but that's only going to motivate me more to beat him on his land. But, let's just hope that he doesn't turn into a maricon by trying to avoid exchanges."
