| Humberto Soto Says He's Ready To Die Against Matthysse
|
|
By Miguel Rivera Former triple world champion Humberto "Zorrita" Soto of Mexico has promised to do everything possible to defeat Argentine puncher Lucas Matthysse (30-2-0-1, 28 KOs) on June 23rd at Staples Center in Los Angeles. Soto is training hard in camp and being pushed to the limit by his team, which is headed by Bobby Quirarte, on the technical side, and Charles "Brody" Valdez on the physical end. On Monday, Soto (57-7-2-1, 34 KOs) started sparring with several boxers, including Pavel Miranda. "Everything is taking shape. We are really enjoying this preparation. I just started sparring and I turned up the pace on my fitness. I have no doubt that we will arrive at for the Matthysse fight at 100% in every area," Soto said. "We are discussing the strategy that we plan to use to counter a fighter with the capacity of Lucas Matthysse, one of the greats in the super lightweight division. We're working to win, every day. The fight is in Los Angeles and I know I'll have the support of the great fans, but I also hope to encourage people from Tijuana and Sinaloa to make the trip to support me. I guarantee to put on a show from start to finish and die on the line while looking to secure the much desired victory. I will not disappoint." I think this fight boils down to whether or not Soto has the power to make Lucas respect him. He's facing a solid 140 pounder, one with a pretty solid chin, one that has the power to turn the lights out with one punch, and most importantly, the skills to land that one punch. If Soto can't get Mat... |
