| Humberto Soto Hires Miller, Declares Free Agent Status
|
|
By Rick Reeno In follow-up to an earlier story reported on BoxingScene.com , WBC lightweight champion Humberto Soto is informing those close to him that he's not going forward with the May 7th rematch with Urbano Antillon, which is scheduled for the Manny Pacquiao-Shane Mosley undercard at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Soto never signed a contract for the Antillon rematch. Soto's manager Antonio Lozada has advised multiple sources in Mexico that he retained well known boxing attorney Michael Miller, who advised Top Rank that Soto's contract has expired and the boxer plans to explore his promotional options. While not confirmed, there are strong indications that Soto is looking at a possible jump to Golden Boy Promotions. Lozada says his boxer is going to return on a televised date in either late May or early June, under a new promoter, and they plan to announce the exact date, venue and opponent in the coming weeks. If the situation with Soto is not resolved, don't be surprised if Antillon is reshuffled to a showdown with WBA champion Brandon Rios on July 9. soto doesn't want to fight anymore tough fights. He looks at TR's stable of lightweights and doesn't want any of that. Maybe he sees that Rios is getting a big push at TR and wants to bail before he sees Rios in the ring. But it'll be no different at GBP. They'll feed him to Guerrero before they ... |

Soto is the weak link at 135 really when you stop to thinka about it. He's not built for that division. |

[QUOTE=deanrw]I think over the next year or two, we will be seeing many more of Top Rank's fighters jump ship and go somewhere else.
Bob's new policy of only doing business with himself, keeping fighters shelved and basically only caring about Manny Pacquiao is going to hurt him bad in a coupl... |
