Humberto Savigne-Jeff Lacy Added To July 10 Tyson Event

By Jake Donovan

Killing two birds with one stone, the mystery is finally solved for whom Humberto Savigne will next face on July 10 and where Jeff Lacy's next ring appearance will finally land.

The two will collide at the American Airlines Arena in Miami, with their light heavyweight crossroads bout serving as the co-feature to the anticipated rematch between Argenis Mendez and Rances Barthelemy. Both bouts will air live on Fox Sports 1, as part of a televised tripleheader that will also include 18-year old blue-chip prospect Erickson Lubin.

Savigne (12-1, 9KO) is ranked #3 by the World Boxing Council (WBC), whose belt is currently in the possession of Adonis Stevenson, also recognized as the lineal light heavyweight king. The Cuban boxer—promoted by Mike Tyson's Iron Mike Productions—has been angling for a shot at Stevenson and unbeaten WBO light heavyweight titlist Sergey Kovalev, but have been in search of the opportunity to get to that point from where he currently rates in the boxing landscape.

His last bout came in February, scoring a 2nd round knockout of Maxell Taylor. It was his first fight since his breakthrough performance last March, when he knocked out previously unbeaten Jackson Junior on ESPN2 Friday Night Fights.

Lacy (26-4, 18KO) returned to the ring last November following a three-year "retirement." The 37-year old saw his name linked to several fights in recent weeks, including what would have been a June 21 clash with Sullivan Barrera in Pennsylvania, as well as a rumored showdown with undefeated prospect Artur Beterbiev this August in Montreal.

Instead, the former super middleweight champ - the first from the 2000 U.S. Olympic Boxing team to have won a major title - agreed to step up and face 35-year old Savigne, whose late start in the pro ranks came after a stellar amateur career that includes two World championships among his 450 wins.

Lacy is so far past it....these guys get so delusional about their place in the current landscape. Reality will bite hard when he realizes he is not what he once was, whatever that was.
