Hugo Ruiz Hopes To Land Terrazas vs. Santa Cruz Winner

By Miguel Rivera

Hugo Ruiz (32-2, 29KOs) is hungry to secure another shot at a championship. On September 7th at Casino Apodaca in Nuevo León, Mexico - Ruiz will return to the ring against countryman and former champion Julio Cesar "Pingo" Miranda (37-8-2, 29KOs). Ruiz is one fight removed from his close decision loss to WBA "regular" bantamweight champion Koki Kameda. He returned in June and stopped Giovanni Caro in two rounds. Pingo's lost three of his last six bouts. He went to a draw in his last outing, in April against  Juan Jose "Goofy" Montes.

Should Ruiz win in September, he would like to get the winner of tonight's fight between WBC super bantamweight champion Victor Terrazas and mandatory challenger Leo Santa Cruz, which takes place at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. Ruiz feels his power and physical strength will be greater at 122-pounds and wants to get a title shot before the end of the yea - should he beat Miranda without injury next month.
