Promoter Don King is considering the possibility of staging a cruiserweight doubleheader in Moscow, Russia.
King put down large amounts of money to win two significant purse bids in the last few weeks. He was by far the highest bidder in both fight auctions.
He bid $712,000 to gain the rights to WBA mandatory title fight between champion Denis Lebedev (25-1, 19 KOs) and mandatory challenger Guillermo Jones (38-3-2, 30 KOs). Then he big $1.5 million to secure the promotional rights to the WBO mandatory fight between champion Marco Huck (35-2-1, 25 KOs) and mandatory Ola Afolabi (19-2-4, 9 KOs).
King was looking for an April date for Lebedev-Jones and targeted a date of May 25th in Germany for the Huck-Afolabi trilogy.
If the necessary financial details are in place, King would combine the two fights on one single card and place the event in Moscow.
There are still insiders who expect King to fall short of pulling this off. If he does fall through on getting these fights scheduled, the promotional rights of both respective fights will fall back to the second highest bidders.Tags: Don King , Marco Huck , Denis Lebedev , Guillermo Jones , Ola Afolabi , Huck-Afolabi , Huck vs Afolabi
