| Hryunov: Khabib Could Face Rios-Alvarado Winner Next

By Ruslan Chikov According to promoter Vladimir Hryunov, the winners of the March 30th junior welterweight doubleheader in Las Vegas could potentially face each other in the fall. Hryunov is the promoter of IBO/WBA "regular" champion Khabib Allakhverdiev (18-0, 8KOs). He recently signed Khabib to a co-promotion with Top Rank. Khabib will make his Top Rank debut on the March card against hard-puncher Breidis Prescott (26-4, 20KOs). In the main event, at the Mandalay Bay, Brandon Rios (31-0-1, 23KOs) will face Mike Alvarado (33-2, 23KOs) in a rematch. Hryunov had conversations with Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum about the year-long strategy for Khabib's career. Arum said the two March 30th winners could end up facing each other in the fall, possibly on a date in September. Khabib has already arrived in Miami to start training with coach John David Jackson. "Khabib has arrived in Miami, the location of where he will have the final stage of his preparation for the fight with Prescott. He will train in the United States under the guidance of coach John David Jackson," Hryunov said. Rios is fighting Alvarado for the 2nd time, whose best win is the guy Khabib is about to fight. |

I like the fight and it makes sense since Khabib signed with Top Rank and is fighting on the undercard of Rios-Alvarado II still has to get past Prescott but I think he will. |

I would love to see that match-up, but I seriously doubt it gets made seeing that Rios's name is commonly thrown around in the same breath as Pacquiao and Marquez. Khabib is very dangerous but relatively unknown at this point in time. |
