According to Glen Rushton, trainer for WBO welterweight champion Jeff Horn, they will request random drug testing for the fall rematch with Manny Pacquiao.
As BoxingScene.com previously reported, Pacquiao has exercised his immediate rematch clause and the second fight is being targeted for a date in November, likely in Australia.
Last month, Horn pulled off a major upset when he won a twelve round unanimous decision over Pacquiao to capture the WBO title at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.
Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum told BoxingScene that Pacquiao, 38-years-old, is looking to redeem himself in a second fight.
Many observers felt Pacquiao did enough to win the first fight, but he appeared to be a few steps behind his fighting best.
Rushton says he wasn't entirely comfortable with the drug testing protocols for the first bout - which consisted of a standard post-bout urine sample. This time around, Rushton says his entire team wants a "level playing field" to ensure both boxers are clean.
"It is something I'd bring up because what I don't want is for them to go 'The only way I can win this fight is if we are trying to get an unfair advantage'," Rushton said to the Sydney Morning Herland. "I would certainly be very mindful of that. We want the big fights, but we want a level playing field.
"I'm very happy with any drug testing. I signed Jeff up for the WBC-VADA clean boxing program, which means you can be tested at any time. As an Olympian, we're used to this sort of drug testing. We've had to do this many times. He's clean as a whistle. If we thought it was a fluke, we would be dodging it. But we're saying let's do it again, next time we'll make it more convincing."
Right now Pacquiao's promoter, Bob Arum of Top Rank, is figuring out a date that works for both sides.
