Bernard Hopkins left with the victory and the unification of two light heavyweight titles. But that doesn’t mean that Hopkins or Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions were happy with the scoring.

The win, which appeared to be clearly in Hopkins’ favor, was a split decision. Judge Gustavo Padilla scored the bout 114-113 for Shumenov, giving him seven of the 12 rounds. Padilla was the only judge to give Shumenov rounds 3, 6 and 8.

“F***ing bullsh*t,” Schaefer said afterward. “That’s another judge who should retire. No question about it.”

The two judges who scored in Hopkins’ favor were Dave Moretti and Jerry Roth, who had him winning 116-111, eight rounds to four with an additional point taken from Shumenov for the knockdown he suffered in the 11th round.

Schaefer said that even those two cards were wrong, implying that the scores should’ve been wider.

"I got a lot of business, corporate friends, and they look at boxing as the red-light district, and that’s one of the reasons,” Hopkins said. “Like, what are they watching?”

“I shut him out,” he added.
