Hopkins: I Won't Fight Ward, Even For $15 Million Dollars

By Bill "Two Scoops" Emes

IBF light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins (53-6-2, 32 KOs) is in no way going to consider a future fight with WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward. Hopkins has too much respect for Ward, considers him a friend, and says there is no amount of money that would make him fight Ward. On Saturday night, Hopkins broke his own record, at age 48, by becoming the oldest boxer to ever win a world championship by winning a twelve round decision over Tavoris Cloud (24-1, 19 KOs).

"Andre Ward is a protege of myself. I would never fight Andre Ward, and I even told Richard [Schaefer] that in the ring....$10 million dollars, $8 million dollars, $15 million dollars....I told him in the ring it's not the money. And I mean that. And I put that on my mom's grave," Hopkins said.
