| Hopkins Eyes Cleverly, Plans To End Career Before 50

By Bill "Two Scoops" Emes IBF light heavyweight champion Bernard "The Executioner" Hopkins (53-6-2, 32KOs) is not planning to fight for another two years. The 48-year-old boxer made history once again on Saturday night when he broke his own record of being the oldest boxer to capture a major world title, when he secured a twelve round unanimous decision over Tavoris Cloud at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. One possible option that Hopkins mentioned in a fight with WBO champion Nathan Cleverly of the UK. "I won't go until I'm 50. I can't do it. My thing is - me, Richard [Schaefer] and my team, we will sit and we will talk. I have to be in LA next month, in April for three days, and we will sit and talk. You have a good fighter out there in England. The O2 Center is a real big [venue]. There are some 168-pounders out there. I'm here to stay but not until I'm 50. He said the same thing about fighting past 40. Won't be surprised to see a 51 year old Hopkins fighting for a title. |

i'd love a Hopkins-Cleverly fight.
i do want to see Hopkins fight just once at age 50 before hanging them up, though, but only if it's in a legitimate title fight. less than two years away now, so it seems quite possible. :lol1: |
