By Cliff Rold - A decade ago, 60-40 wouldn’t cut it for Roy Jones. A Showtime promise of three fights, to have included Harry Simon and Joe Calzaghe, wasn’t enough to override the desire to ride out a contract with Don King and shoot for top dollars with De La Hoya. Following his win over Felix Trinidad in 2001, Bernard Hopkins was tough to pin down and many wondered aloud if he was the lottery winner who lost the ticket. What fools Hopkins made of the world. Questions of his competition between Trinidad and De La Hoya all those years ago are good for a chuckle now. It turns out Hopkins was just saving himself for later. How to explain a man who goes on his most consistent run of top threats from the age of 40 forward? It’s remarkable. An undefeated Jermain Taylor (twice) ended his historic Middleweight title run in 2005. The judges said he lost his title and took it from him. Matters in the ring said otherwise.

Staples Center, Los Angeles - The weights are in for Saturday's HBO Pay-Per-View. In the main event, WBC light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins will defend his title against mandatory challenger Chad Dawson. Hopkins weighed 173.4-pounds, and Dawson was 174.2-pounds. Both fighters were in great shape.

Philadelphia seems like a better fit for Bernard Hopkins’ fight against Chad Dawson than Los Angeles.

LOS ANGELES — Chad Dawson's eyes light up when he imagines his ideal boxing career. He would spend every day training in his gym and every night at home in Connecticut with his wife and four sons, far away from everything else he finds so annoying about this sport.

"Believe It Or Not!: Bernard Hopkins vs. Chad Dawson" is a 12-round bout for Hopkins' WBC and Ring Magazine Light Heavyweight World Championship Titles taking place on Saturday, Oct. 15 at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, Calif. and will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View® beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT. The event is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Gary Shaw Productions and sponsored by Cerveza Tecate, AT&T and Ripley's Believe It or Not. In addition to this championship main event showdown, the televised pay-per-view undercard will also feature: Antonio DeMarco vs. Jorge Linares in a 12-round fight for the vacant WBC Lightweight World Title; Kendall Holt vs. Danny Garcia in 12-round bout for the vacant NABO Junior Welterweight Title; and Paulie Malignaggi vs. Orlando Lora in a 10-round welterweight bout. DeMarco vs. Linares is presented in association with Teiken Promotions. Read on to see what all of the participants had to say at the final pre-fight press conference, which was held Thursday afternoon in downtown Los Angeles:

BERNARD HOPKINS, WBC & Ring Magazine Light Heavyweight World Champion “I would like to say it is good to be back in Los Angeles. I made history here years back with Howard Eastman in the middleweight division with my 20 title defenses. I am excited to be back making that history.

Former light heavyweight champion "Bad" Chad Dawson appeared on the most recent edition of "The Boxing Lab," which is BoxingScene.com's official audio show. Dawson faces WBC champion Bernard Hopkins on Saturday at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles in the main event of a pay-per-view card that is being distributed by HBO.
