The Bernard Hopkins-Chad Dawson light heavyweight title fight is headed to Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Former light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson (30-1, 17 KOs) is going to capitalize on the mistakes that were made by Jean Pascal in his recent decision loss to Bernard Hopkins (52-5-2, 32 KOs). He doesn't feel Pascal used his youth against the 46-year-old veteran. Dawson, at age 28, plans to use speed, a very high workrate and the factor of being the younger fighter to defeat Hopkins on October 15 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

The oldest recognized champion in boxing history is expected to make the first defense of the WBC light heavyweight title he won last month at Prudential Center in Newark on Oct. 15.

According to various reports, WBC light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins (52-5-2, 32 KOs) will defend his title against mandatory challenger Chad Dawson (30-1, 17 KOs) on the likely date of October 15 in a fight that is going to reportedly take place on HBO pay-per-view. Dawson, a former WBC/IBO champion, is one fight removed from his technical decision loss to Jean Pascal, who Hopkins fought to a disputed draw and then Hopkins made history by beating Pascal by decision to become the oldest champion in boxing history.

According to WBC light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins (52-5-2, 32KOs), his anticipated first title defense, against mandatory challenger Chad Dawson (30-1, 17KOs), will likely fall on a September date on HBO. Hopkins will return for the first time since the history winning effort over Jean Pascal in May. On that same card, Dawson won a lopsided decision over Adrian Diaconu to secure his future fight with Hopkins. Their fight could be pushed back, as Dawson's promoter Gary Shaw has stated in several recent interviews that a date in October or November is also possible.

"...it's not the book they (the public) remember from the beginning, it's the end of the book that justifies whether the book was good or not; it's called the last impression," said Bernard Hopkins.

IBF light heavyweight champion Tavoris Cloud wants a crack at the winner of the upcoming fight between WBC champion Bernard Hopkins and his mandatory challenger Chad Dawson. Negotiations for Hopkins-Dawson are going well and an HBO televised date could be secured by next week. Cloud is making a mandatory defense of his own, on June 25 against Yusaf Mack.

Last Saturday in Montreal, Bernard Hopkins became the oldest fighter to win a major world championship as he claimed the WBC light-heavyweight title after defeating Jean Pascal at the age of 46. Hopkins wrested the WBC, IBO and The Ring magazine titles from his 28-year-old opponent, who was making his fifth defense at the Bell Centre.
