Former unified middleweight and light heavyweight champion Bernard 'The Alien' Hopkins is confident of a deal being made for a 2017 collision between WBO junior middleweight champion Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (48-1-1, 34KOs) and WBC/IBO/WBA/IBF middleweight champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (36-0, 33KOs).

Besides being a future Hall of Famer, Hopkins is also an executive for Golden Boy Promotions, who handle the career of Canelo.

Golden Boy is currently working out the details with K2 Promotions head Tom Loeffler, who handles Golovkin. The fight is being targeted for Mexican Independence Day weekend in September of 2017.

Hopkins believes the fight will indeed come off next year. He says this won't be the same situation as Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao - which took six long years to make.

"It will be the super, super fight in a long time for Triple G, who is now in his mid-30s, and Canelo who still hasn't reached 27. There is still time for it to happen sooner than later. But I'll tell you this Radio Rahim - it will happen and I will tell the world that it won't take as long as Mayweather and Pacquiao," Hopkins told BoxingScene.com.

In his most recent fight on September 10th, Golovkin traveled over to the UK and defended his titles against IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook at the 02 Arena in London. Brook moved up by thirteen pounds for the fight.

In that contest, Brook had strong moments of success and he was able to get off with some very hard combinations that hit Golovkin flush. Golovkin was in full control when he stopped Brook in the fifth round.

There were some - including Golden Boy CEO Oscar De La Hoya - who felt Golovkin looked very vulnerable in the contest.

Hopkins doesn't see it that way. He has a lot of respect for Golovkin and views him as a very dangerous fighter. After watching the fight with Brook, his opinion has not changed.

"It didn't my change my comments and what I think about Triple G. He's always going to be dangerous because punchers are always dangerous until they are punched out or knocked out. He is always going to be dangerous no matter how old he is, because he's a puncher and who he fights, whether it's Canelo or anybody. Fighting Triple G is like fighting through land mines, because if you don't see something and then you step on one of them and it's over with," Hopkins told BoxingScene.com.

"What I seen in London.... Triple G doing what he do but had some boredom in rounds, where if you wasn't sure - [you would think] that he was actually buying time to see what Kell Brook had and recognized that his punches wouldn't hurt him and wouldn't affect him, and closed the show when he wanted to. I think he wanted to get rounds in, and I'm not saying carry [Brook], but he didn't want to bumrush him with the same pressure and the same aggression. I would call it a televised exhibition."
