Holyfield Explains Why He is Leaning To Joshua Over Wilder

Four time heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield appears to be leaning to IBF, IBO, WBA Anthony Joshua (20-0, 20 KOs) to overcome the challenge of WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (39-0, 38 KOs). (Photo by Mark Robinson)

Joshua vs. Wilder is one of the biggest fights to be made in the sport of boxing.

Before they can seriously discuss the possibility of trading punches, both boxers have very dangerous assignments coming up in the month of March.

Wilder is scheduled to defend his belt on March 3rd against undefeated Cuban puncher Luis Ortiz at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

And Joshua is likely going to unify with WBO world champion Joseph Parker on March 31 at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales.

Holyfield believes Joshua is the more complete fighter, but he also cautions that Wilder can knock any fighter out at any given time.

“The thing is, both fighters have the things that they do real well. Deontay may be the lesser experienced fighter [even though he's] been the champion so long. But, what he has.. he has confidence. Here’s a guy that the things that he do, he do real well. He’s got fast hands and he’s got that one-two. And I think at any given time if a person doesn’t watch out he’ll hit you with that one two," Holyfield told Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports.

“But I still know that to be a great fighter [Wilder has] got to be tested. The fact of the matter is Anthony Joshua is that fighter with pedigree that he’s been in the game. He became the very best amateur fighter. He won the gold medal and all this, so he brings a lot to the table. But I do believe that any given time [Wilder] can knock anybody out. As thin as his arm is, he can throw the quick right and he’s not afraid to throw it. I like his confidence.

"I actually feel if you get the proper people, [Wilder] can add more to his things. But I think when he fights Anthony Joshua, I think that after the fourth or the fifth round it changes. You know, youth is your strength. I think Anthony Joshua is just a more complete fighter. He’s been tested. He has been down and he has gotten up. I think it will be a great fight."

[QUOTE=theface07;18409257]Who do you "rate" in the heavyweight division then? Who has accomplished more? Lucas "Big Dummy" Browne? Parker? Joshua may have stamina problems and Wilder has fought mostly weak competition but to not even rate either is laughable. I don't…
