Henry Santos To Sing National Anthem At Guzman-Pabon

By Jake Donovan

South Florida promoter Acquinity Sports is going all in for this Friday’s show at the Westin Diplomat Resort in Hollywood, Florida. Headlining the show – which will air live on ESPN2 Friday Night Fights – is unbeaten former two-division champ Joan Guzman, who takes on trialhorse Jesus Pabon in a 10 round non-title bout.

The week’s festivities include several R&B and Latin music acts, performing during the pre-fight press conference on Wednesday as well as before and after Friday’s fights.

Chief among the entertainment lineup is Henry Santos from award-winning Bachate group Aventura, who will be performing the Dominican National Anthem.

Santos was born in Dominican Republic but relocated to the Bronx when he was a teenager. It was in the Boogie Down where he hooked up with his cousins Anthony “Romeo” Santos, Max Santos and Lenny Santos to form the chart-topping group that has been around for more than a decade.

Each have since embarked on solo careers, including Henry Santos’ smash solo debut album in 2011 ‘Introducing Henry Santos’, which opened at number two on the Billboard Tropical charts.

Guzman recently signed with Acquinity Sports in hopes of remaining active in the ring, an issue that has plagued his career along with issues at the scales. The unbeaten Dominican – who represented his homeland in the 1996 Summer Olympics – returned to the ring last November with a 1st round knockout of Florencio Castellano and has his sights set on a title at 140 lb. by year’s end.

In the meantime, the goal is to remain busy and for his fights to become local events. Making the journey that much more enjoyable is noted acts (and friends) such Aventura along for the ride.
