During a press conference today in Borgaa (Finland) - Kalle Helenius, father and trainer of heavyweight contender Robert "Nordic Nightmare" Helenius, stated that this coming Monday he plans to report Sauerland Event to the police for risking his son´s health and mistreating his career.
It was also claimed at the press conference that Sauerland is insisting there are existing promotional contracts and it also appears that the ongoing negotiations about a co-promotional deal with Helenius' incoming yet to be named promoters have broken down.
The background to their allegations - is the fight against Dereck Chisora two years ago in Helsinki on a Sauerland / P 3 Boxing co-promotion. Robert apparently had problems with his right hand and shoulder in training camp and then suffered serious injuries in the fight to both the hand and the shoulder - problems that caused long layoffs - and in the two fights Helenius has had since Chisora, his once explosive right hand has been missing. This fall Robert and his family returned to Finland and the contractual dispute began.
Sauerland's General Manager Chris Meyer states that there is an existing promotional contract for two more years with an extension for the time off due to injuries, and also says there was a deal for a fight in Helsinki in March of 2014 )[now canceled]. But, Meyer also states they can offer Robert fights in Germany on ARD.
"We have not done anything illegal or even wrong in any sense," wrote Meyer in an emailed response to Helenius' allegations.
