Hearn: There is Already Talk of Burns-Crawford at MSG

Promoter Eddie Hearn is sure WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns will be back to his best against Raymundo Beltran in Glasgow on September 7.

The Coatbridge star, 30, had to battle back from a sluggish start to overcome Jose Gonzalez in nine rounds last time out, but Hearn remains confident that his new fighter can produce the goods in front of his home fans.

Hearn told Sky Sports News: "It's Ricky's second fight for us. Obviously he had a tough time last time out against Jose Gonzalez. Things were looking bleak for him after seven rounds but he turned it around and carved out a remarkable victory.

"Beltran is ranked throughout the governing bodies and is probably the toughest outside of a world champion. It's a big opportunity for Ricky to look sensational and he really wants to make a statement after a performance that he'd describe as average.

"There is talk already of Burns against a young fighter called Terence Crawford at Madison Square Garden. Crawford is an HBO fighter. But Ricky has tremendous support up here in Glasgow and I think we can make those big fights here.

"A unification fight is what we want to lead to in the new year but for now it's about producing a great performance against Beltran and then look to unify the division.

"Boxing is on a huge high at the moment and there's so many brilliant fights coming up and what a way to kick it off with Burns v Beltran. We're expecting a really passionate crowd."

Hearn also recently confirmed Kell Brook's welterweight clash against Vyacheslav Senchenko - the Ukrainian who ended Ricky Hatton's comeback last November - and is enthused by the Sheffield star's prospects.

"It's a huge step up. Kell looks a fantastic talent and is No 1 rated by the IBF and ready to step up to that world title. He was ready to do so against Devon Alexander but lost out to injury.

"Senchenko represents a real test and we can't wait to put that even on at the Sheffield Arena. British boxing is absolutely buzzing right now."

Burns will be back fighting on the domestic level vs British stiffs before you know it. He will never beat guys like Broner or Crawford. Never, ever. Maybe he can get a crooked hometown decision vs Vazquez but I'm not even sure about that. He looked absolutely pathetic against Gonzalez. Abri...
After what Gonzalez was doing to Burns I wouldn't put Burns in the same continent with Crawford. If Terrance is in Europe Burns better be in Brazil.
100%!! Crawford will embarrass Burns...
Surely this would be an undercard fight? Unless of course, the card is stacked with talent? Could Crawford-Burns fill MSG? I don't see it.
This won't be in the U.S., it will be in Scotland or the U.K. where there will be a larger interest and more money.
