Hearn: Ricky Burns-Gavin Rees Offer Was Horrendous

By Edward Chaykovsky

Promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport has confirmed that he received an offer for Gavin Rees (37-1-1, 18KOs) to face WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (35-2, 10KOs) on December 15th at ExCel Arena in London. Hearns says the offer from Burns' promoter Frank Warren was very low and there was also a contract clause that gave Warren future options on Rees.

"We badly want a world title for Gavin Rees but if we can't get it this year then we have to look at the alternatives. And the alternatives include someone that Sky would like to see him fight, someone the fans would like to see him fight," Hearn told iFilmLondon.

"They've made us an offer, for Ricky Burns. It was a horrendous offer with options and all that kind of stuff. They made a horrendous offer for tiny money, less what we're paying him for European title fights."
