Matchroom Boxing promoter, Eddie Hearn told BoxingScene today that it’s “Music to our ears” after discovering that Leo Santa Cruz wants to face WBA Super-bantamweight champion Scott Quigg in a unification clash in July or August instead of Carl Frampton, according to quotes from The Daily Mail’s website earlier today.
Santa Cruz, the WBC belt holder at 122lbs told SportsMail: “I think I will fight Scott Quigg before Carl Frampton, he has the belt and Frampton doesn’t have one right now. It’s a better opportunity against Scott.”
In response, Hearn told ‘Scene: “We’d be more than happy to step up and face Santa Cruz in a unification, let’s make it happen.”
But Hearn also informed BS that he is due to meet with Carl Frampton’s team this week in order to push through a fight between the Northern Irishman and Quigg.
“My number one choice without any shadow of a doubt is Carl Frampton for Quigg. We’ve made offers, we’ve requested meetings and we’re waiting to hear back from the McGuigans about a meeting this Friday which I’ve asked to be brought forward. I want to try and get moving. Let’s just get in a room and get the fight made. I want (Quigg) to fight Carl Frampton, and that’s what everyone wants, but if they don’t want it then our number one target is Santa Cruz.”
