The long-awaited clash between Shawn Porter and Kell Brook finally has a date and venue.
The Brit will make his U.S. television debut when he challenges rising star Shawn Porter for his IBF welterweight title at the StubHub Center in Carson, California on August 16, Brook's promoted Eddie Hearn revealed via Twitter on Wednesday. Showtime will carry the bout.
Brook (32-0, 22 KOs) has been waiting for a crack at the IBF title going back to last year when Devon Alexander held it, but that bout was scuttled due to injuries on three separate occasions. Porter (24-0-1, 15 KOs) impressively defeated Alexander in December, and then scored a knockout over Paulie Malignaggi this year.
Porter has faced the far better opposition, but Brook presents a formidable foe, a well-built 147-pounder who possesses speed and power.
A title rematch between super middleweights Sakio Bika and Anthony Dirrell is expected to be the co-feature. They fought to a draw in December.
