Olympic bronze medal winner David Price could be one win away from changing his career completely around.

As BoxingScene.com reported earlier this week, a deal is nearly complete for David Price to face former world champion Alexander Povetkin as part of the undercard to the WBO, IBF, IBO, WBA heavyweight unification between Anthony Joshua and Joseph Parker.

Povetkin is the WBA's mandatory challenger to Joshua.

The Russian Olympic gold medal winner has been mentioned as a likely summer opponent - if Joshua is able to overcome Parker.

But if Price can pull off the upset - he would likely overtake Povetkin's mandatory spot and then he finds himself in position for a grudge match with Joshua.

A few weeks ago, Joshua confirmed a longstanding story that he was dropped badly in a sparring session with Price a few years ago.

Hearn is hoping that Povetkin vs. Price is fully finalized in the coming days.

"We have approval from the British Boxing Board of Control, from the WBA as well," Hearn told Sky Sports. "David Price has confirmed the fight. The contract is with Alexander Povetkin, just recently went with him after agreeing terms.

"We are hopeful that fight will be announced this week. It's a really interesting fight in the heavyweight mix. Of course you make Povetkin a big favourite, but David Price can really punch and if he can knock out Alexander Povetkin, he catapults himself to No 1 in the WBA world rankings. It would be quite a story."

Price (22-4, 18 KOs) was once viewed as a rising star in British boxing and tabbed for great things. But then suffered back to back knockout defeats to Tony Thompson in 2013. And then he was knocked out badly by Erkan Teper. Although Teper tested positive for steroids in the aftermath, the result was not overturned. Price won two in a row before he was knocked out again, this time by Christian Hammer last February.

The Liverpool boxer bounced back in December with a six round decision win in Brentwood.
