Promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport is looking over the potential options for a summer headliner involving IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (36-0, 25KOs).
The man that Hearn would like to secure is WBC welterweight champion Danny Garcia. That is the number one preference on his list.
Garcia fought in January when he won a twelve round decision over Robert Guerrero to capture the vacant WBC title that was vacated last year by Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Mayweather announced his retirement last September after beating Andre Berto.
Hearn believes Mayweather will return to the ring, in September, with a fight against Garcia. Other options being pursued by Hearn include Adrien Broner and Timothy Bradley. Broner is dealing with some legal issues at the moment and Bradley, who two weeks ago suffered a loss to Manny Pacquiao in their trilogy bout, is not coming back to the ring until the fall - and Hearn wants to stage the event with Brook on a date in July.
"[Garcia is] solid, he beat Amir Khan, he is an elite welterweight. The two fights we really want are Danny Garcia and Adrien Broner. Broner hasn’t necessarily had a stellar career at welterweight but he’s a big name. It’s a fun fight," Hearn told Sky Sports.
“Garcia in my opinion will fight Floyd Mayweather next, in September. That could rule him out of the equation, while he is waiting. Broner has indicated they might travel if you bring a huge pot of money with you, which is achievable. Tim Bradley is still a fight which me personally as a fight fan I’d love.”
