Hearn: Great Chance of Froch vs. Groves Rematch in 2014

Promoter Eddie Hearn believes there is a "great chance" of a rematch between Carl Froch and George Groves taking place in 2014.

The two British super-middleweights were involved in a fight-of-the-year contender last November that eventually went the way of Froch thanks to a contentious stoppage by referee Howard Foster in the ninth round.

Groves - who put the reigning IBF and WBA champion down in the first - was fuming at the way the first meeting ended and has pushed hard for another crack at his compatriot.

Hearn promoted both men for the first bout and believes a second showdown would be massive, not least for the sport of boxing as a whole.

"I think there's a great chance," he told Sky Sports when asked about the possibilities of a rematch.

"I think it comes down to ego and pride at the end of the day, and of course a lot of money.

"As a fan and a promoter it's the biggest fight out there. I know we could have this at a huge stadium and have 60, 70, 80,000 people.

"It was a tremendous fight last time and taking away the controversy, it was one of the best fights I've ever seen. A rematch could be even bigger.

"If we can get the deal right, if we can get the mix right and if we can get these two egos together so it can happen, then it would be wonderful for the sport.

"If I was a betting man I think we are going to get there. I hope we do."

Hearn is set to meet with Froch on Tuesday and understands that there are other options that the 'Cobra' could consider, particularly if he wants to fight again on American soil.

The 36-year-old from Nottingham has always expressed his desire at avenging a loss to Andre Ward before he hangs up his gloves, while middleweight sensation Gennady Golovkin is another possibility.

"We're talking to both fighters and looking at their options," Hearn continued about Froch-Groves II. "It's a fight as a fan I'd love to see - I think it can be the biggest British fight of all time.

"But at this stage of Carl Froch's career he does have options.

"We're speaking to Dan Goossen about Andre Ward, we are speaking to K1 promotions about Gennady Golovkin and we are speaking to Bob Arum and Top Rank about Julio Chavez Jr.

"They're all big fights and I know Carl has big ambitions to fight out in America in Las Vegas.

"But of course the fight that everybody wants to see in the UK is Froch v Groves II. My intention is to look very closely at it.

"I'll be sitting down with Carl tomorrow (on Tuesday) and hopefully we can have some good news for the British public in the coming weeks."

I admittedly clicked this article expecting to be aggravated with Hearn talking $h!t but he actually brought up some veeeery interesting names! Froch vs JCC and GGG are both very mouth watering sounding fights! Hope one or both of em…

A rematch will be much bigger than the first fight. I got Froch in a rematch... will be looking for a points bet or two if/when it gets made.
