Haye: British Board Didn't Punish Chisora Right, But I Will!

DAVID HAYE has vowed to take the law into his own hands tonight when he meets his biggest enemy Dereck Chisora.

The pair hate each other and will clash in front of more than 30,000 fans at West Ham’s Upton Park ground in the most eagerly-awaited fight of the year.

The feuding duo have been sworn enemies ever since their disgraceful press conference brawl in Munich last February.

That dust-up followed Chisora’s defeat by Vitali Klitschko, with ‘Del Boy’ threatening to shoot Haye.

The pair then became involved in a scrap at the end of a week in which Chisora had produced some of his worst-ever behaviour.

He slapped Klitschko at the weigh-in and then spat water at his brother Wladimir before the first bell sounded.

The Boxing Board of Control withdrew his licence but stopped short of banning him – something that still clearly angers Haye.

In addition, underdog Chisora has convictions for public order offences, assaulting a police officer and possession of an offensive weapon.

The 28-year-old was also found guilty of assaulting his girlfriend two years ago but was spared jail, instead landing a 12-week prison sentence, suspended for two years.

Haye, no angel himself, said: “He is not a nice person and I will make him pay for everything he has done, believe me.

“This fight is all about getting out there and beating up someone who needs a good hiding.

"Dereck has done so many different things that are wrong yet he has never been punished, he has never done any hard time.

“He did all the things he did in boxing and the British Board of Control didn’t suspend him, they didn’t ban him.

“He has never been punished for anything he has done and I don’t know why. The law hasn’t punished him properly.

“The Board of Control hasn’t punished him properly, so I think it is down to me to make sure that he is punished.”

Haye, 31, a former WBA world heavyweight champion, makes no secret of his dislike of Chisora.

He said: “There are some people around who just aren’t nice – and Dereck Chisora is one of those people. I am taking the law into my own hands. I have to be judge jury and executioner on fight night.

“He has not been punished for his transgressions in recent years. I am sure he gets a letter from some one high up saying that he has to provide for his family and what ever reason he comes up with.

“But when we meet, he is not going to be taken the distance, he is not going to be let off. He is going to be punished and punished real quick.

“Dereck is a natural-born loser and he will find a way to lose. When he has tried to step up in class, he has been found wanting.”

Victory tonight could catapult the previously-retired Haye back into world title contention once again, despite British fight chiefs refusing to license tonight’s fight.

He was emphatically beaten in his last world title contest against Wladimir Klitschko in Hamburg last July and retired a few months later. But he is now back in business and said of the future: “Whether I want to fight for the title is irrelevant.

“It is down to the boxers who have the world titles to want to fight me. And I think the best way to get to that point is to do a very good job on Dereck Chisora.

“I have to beat him better than he has ever been beaten before and then let the public demand a fight with someone like Vitali Klitschko (the WBC champion).

“But, right now, all I am focused on is sorting out Dereck Chisora.”
