Hasim Rahman: record, next fight and profile →
Earlier today rumors were widespread on the web that a proposed fight between WBA heavyweight champion (the regular one) Alexander Povetkin (24-0, 16 KOs) and former undisputed heavyweight king Hasim Rahman (50-7-2, 41 KOs) would fight on July 27 in Moscow, Russia, despite a recent hand injury suffered by the American veteran.
The World Boxing Association has confirmed that Hasim Rahman suffered a hand injury that forced him to withdraw from a scheduled fight with "regular" heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin. The mandatory fight was scheduled for July 14 in Hamburg, Germany. Because Rahman is the mandatory challenger, the WBA's championship committee will evaluate the situation and make a statement later in the day regarding the case. Povetkin is unbeaten in 24 battles, with 16 knockouts, while the interim-beltholder, Rahman, has 50 wins, with 41 knockouts, seven defeats and two draws.
It is official: Alexander Povetkin (24-0, 16 KOs) will defend his title against Hasim Rahman (50-7-2, 41 KOs) at the Sporthalle Hamburg on July 14. Originally the WBA-Champion was scheduled to fight in London but has now opted to do so in Hamburg instead.
Alexander Povetkin's WBA World Heavyweight title defence against Hasim Rahman has been withdrawn from the show at West Ham United on Saturday 14th July.
WBA regular heavyweight champ Alexander Povetkin was far from his best against Marco Huck earlier this year. He was in fact out of shape but the only explanation offered was that he had underestimated his opponent. I contacted his manager, Vlad Hryunov, to see how his training camp is going, and I was advised that all-time boxing great Kostya Tszyu is now training Povetkin.
Top-notch Russian boxing manager/promoter Vladimir Hryunov commented on the future plans of three of his highly regarded protégés in a series of interviews with Russian media outlets. Hryunov defined the possible nearest future of WBA heavyweight titlist Alexander Povetkin (24-0, 16 KOs), hard-hitting WBA/WBO #1 and WBA interim cruiserweight titlist Denis Lebedev (24-1, 18 KOs) and highly-ranked (WBC #4, WBA #6 and IBF #11) super bantamweight Alexander Bakhtin.
According to sources, WBA heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin (24-0, 16KOs) will not defend his title on the huge July show at Upton Park in West Ham, London.
Contrary to the circulating information in Russia and Germany, sources close to Sauerland Event have advised BoxingScene.com that Alexander Povetkin (24-0, 16KOs) vs. Hasim Rahman (50-7-2, 41KOs) will remain on Frank Warren's huge event on July 14th at Upton Park in West Ham, London.
A few hours before the official press conference, promoter Frank Warren sat down with BoxingScene.com to discuss what many are calling the "biggest domestic event in BoxNation history." In the main event, a heavyweight grudge match between David Haye (25-2, 23KOs) and Dereck Chisora (15-3, 9KOs). In the co-feature, Alexander Povetkin (24-0, 16KOs) will defend his WBA "regular" heavyweight title against mandatory challenger Hasim Rahman (50-7-2, 41KOs).
Multiple sources have confirmed to BoxingScene.com that Alexander Povetkin (24-0, 16KOs) will defend his WBA "regular" heavyweight title on July 14th against former two-time beltholder Hasim Rahman (50-7-2, 41KOs), as part of the proposed undercard to the Ricky Burns-Kevin Mitchell lightweight showdown at Upton Park in West Ham, London.
