Guerrero: I Have The Style To Take Mayweather Out!

By Luis Sandoval

After a dominant performance by Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero against Andre Berto on Saturday night, Guerrero’s focus has once again turned to Pound for Pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr.

When Guerrero was asking for the Mayweather fight earlier this year, it appeared to fall on deaf ears as he had yet to have a fight at Welterweight and would have to move up two weight classes. Two welterweight fights later against two tough formidable opponents, Guerrero feels he’s proved he’s a true Welterweight to be reckoned with.

“Now I'm at 147 so it just shows I can take a shot and I'm determined to come out and fight the best fighters. That's why I want to fight Floyd Mayweather. People said that I'm just trying to cash out and that I'm just trying to look for the big names to get big pays but I want to fight the best. I want to be the best. I don't just want to get paid because I know if I fight the best and I'm the best I'll get paid no matter what. So I'm here to fight” said Guerrero.

Berto surprisingly came out using the patented Floyd Mayweather shoulder roll defense which Guerrero was able to break down quickly as he knocked Berto down in each of the opening rounds. If Guerrero lands a Mayweather fight however, he knows the tasks will be much different.

"You have to have a different approach for every fighter. We're going to look at tape and I've been studying [Mayweather] for a long time also. We're going to put the game plan together and go from there. But you can't compare Floyd and Berto. Floyd's a lot slicker and a tremendous defensive fighter” Guerrero would tell BoxingScene.

“I’m not going run from him. I'm not going to be one of those guys that throw one or two punches. I'm going to come to throw. And as you guys seen, I'm not scared to exchange, I'm not scared to punch. I'm not scared to be in the mix, I'm not scared to box. I'm not scared to do anything. When I come to fight I come to fight. Styles make fights and I really feel with Mayweather, I'll take him out”.

Guerrero will look to land a Mayweather fight in 2013 where he will be in direct competition with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez who has also expressed he’d like to fight Mayweather in May of next year.

The more I look at the pictures of the fight, the more Berto looked like a Gargoyle Fish Monster from a 1950's SCI-FI B movie.
