WBA super world champion George Groves (27-3, 20 KOs) believes Chris Eubank Jr. (26-1, 20 KOs) has fooled the public with his training videos and big talk.
Eubank, the IBO's world champion, will collide with Groves at the Manchester Arena on February 17th in a semi-final bout within the World Boxing Super Series Tournament.
The winner will move on to the WBSS finale, against the winning of the other semi-final bout between Callum Smith and Juergen Braehmer.
To get to the semi-final dance, 28-year-old Eubank Jr. went to Stuttgart in Germany on October 7 and crushed Avni Yildirim inside three rounds.
And 29-year-old Groves fought in London on October 14 when he landed a crushing bodyshot on countryman Jamie Cox at the SSE Arena for a fourth round knockout.
Groves is confident of knocking Eubank off his perch when they meet in the ring. He believes more and more fans are going to see right through Eubank's antics as the fight draws closer.
“He’s created this facade of the Rocky-style training montage day in, day out,” said Groves to The Mirror.
“Putting up films of himself doing 98 punches in 11 seconds and stuff like that. That’s his niche, that’s how he’s got his success, capturing a certain section of the public’s imagination and most importantly, not having a real fight. That will capture a fair selection of the public’s imagination, but as the fight gets much closer, a lot more people are seeing through it.
“He has put himself into a position now where some people have bought into it, they believe he is the next coming, that he is genuine article and that not only is he going to win this fight, but he is a formidable force. I don’t see it. It won’t be an easy fight, but the way he has been elevated means it will be a huge fall from grace for him.”
