Gonzalez-Mtagwa Clash To Land on ESPN and Televisa

By Ivan Leon

According to WBC featherweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez (49-7, 43KOs), his upcoming title defense against Roger Mtagwa (27-14-2, 19KOs) on September 15th in El Paso, Texas, will be televised in the United States as a special event on ESPN and carried in Mexico on Televisa. On the undercard, Antonio Escalante and Miguel "Mickey" Roman will appear in separate bouts.

"I want to thank Promociones del Pueblo for giving me the opportunity to make my defense  in El Paso, Texas, where I saw Erik Morales become a champion. I remember it was a great, and hopefully on September 15th the people will make a grand entrance to see my defense, and also the stars of [El Paso] such as "Mickey" and Escalante," Gonzalez said.
Gotta be kidding me...Jhonny turned down a fight with Gamboa because "the money wasn't right", and now he's taking on journeyman Rogers Mtagwa? Does Gonzalez think he can hold out for more cash? Geezzzz....
Well the only way for Gonzalez…

Good card and a good time to show a fight considering Mayweather-Ortiz is two days later so ESPN will already have their boxing hat on and will be able to pump this up a bit.
