Gennady Golovkin’s campaign at 160 isn’t over just yet. He’s facing prospect Willie Monroe Jr. on May 16 in Los Angeles, and trainer Abel Sanchez says the hope is to face other middleweight titleholders in 2015 before moving up to super middleweight in 2016.

There are three big-name opponents at 168 that Sanchez believes are realistic: Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., titleholder Carl Froch, and lineal champion Andre Ward.

“I would love to see him face Julio Cesar Chavez. First of all, that’s my dream fight for him,” Sanchez said. “The styles, just like the [David] Lemieux fight, would be a great fight. I think that Chavez has enough girth to him and a great chin that it’s going to be a 12-round Rock’em Sock’em Robots kind of fight. The stronger guy at the end is going to win the fight.

“The other fight would be Carl Froch. I think that’s a great fight in England. Obviously Andre Ward if Andre ever resolves his issues with getting some fights. He’s been off what, two years, a year and a half, so he needs a couple tune-up fights. But those three fights I think are realistic. I don’t know if anybody else is coming down or going up.

Chavez will face Andrzej Fonfara on April 18 on Showtime. Though Fonfara is at light heavyweight, the bout is three pounds below the limit at a catch-weight of 172 pounds.

“Maybe Chavez thinks he can make 168,” Sanchez said.”
