After his February 21st stoppage of the tough Martin Murray in Monaco, WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin is ready to get back on the horse and Tom Loeffler is mapping out his next assignment.
"We want to build off of that momentum, keep the same plan of having him active and bring him back to the United States. It looks like it'll be in Los Angeles and it'll be in May on HBO," the managing director of K2 Promotions told BoxingScene.
The current plan for Golovkin - in lieu of getting a marquee name in the ring - is to have him box four times in 2015.
According to Loeffler, May 16th is "the working date," for this event. He declined to name the venue where Golovkin's next bout would be held. On October 18th, Golovkin played to an overflow crowd at the StubHub Center against Marco Antonio Rubio.
Loeffler has designs of hitting other markets with the popular middleweight.
"We've had a great response from San Antonio where fans have been asking to bring Gennady up there. Las Vegas would be a great market for Gennady," he explained.
"So that's really our goal, we built him in New York on the biggest media platform in the world and then his reception here in California - the entertainment capitol of the world - was tremendous and we want to keep fighting him in different venues."
