The WBC announced on Monday it's resolution in regards to their middleweight belt-holder Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez and their interim titlist Gennady Golovkin. The hope is that they will eventually meet at some point in the second half of 2016 after taking separate bouts to begin the year.

"Yeah, definitely, we've agreed - both fighters to make one defense. Those fights have to take place by the end of May and then the fighters both have to fight each other. It's a very structured time frame and a fight of this magnitude we have no issue with building it because the fan-base that 'Canelo' brings to the table and a middleweight title and Gennady has been a middleweight champion for a number of years."

"So you have the two best guys fighting each other in the division and it makes for a super-fight. You have Gennady who sold over 20,000 tickets in New York at Madison Square Garden and 'Canelo' sold over 30,000 tickets in Texas and you combine those two fan-bases you have the biggest fight that can be made in boxing right now."

So can this fight actually take place in September on Mexican Independence Day weekend, which has become a traditional pay-per-view landing spot?

"From every indication that we've got and the WBC has supported this agreement that the fighters have to fight next. At the same time, if one of the fighters doesn't agree to figh then they lose their championship status. That's really the main point of the agreement: to have a set time frame for this fight to happen," explained Loeffler.

Loeffler is currently in Panama with Golovkin, who is will recieve his 'fighter of the year' award from the WBA, asked if 'GGG' was happy with the WBC edict, he answered - "He likes the fact that there's some certainty now in terms of what's going to happen and we have respect for 'Canelo' and he just happens to have the title Gennady is focused in on adding to his collection."
