Abel Sanchez, trainer for IBF/WBA/WBC/IBO middleweight king Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin, believes unbeaten Errol Spence (20-0, 17KOs) would drill WBC welterweight champion Danny Garcia (32-0, 18KOs) if they met in the ring.
Sanchez views Spence as one of the best up and coming fighters in the sport. Spence made a statement earlier this year when he dominated and stopped former WBO 140-pound champion Chris Algieri in five rounds - an accomplishment that Manny Pacquiao and Ruslan Provodnikov failed to achieve.
According to Garcia, Spence is not ready for someone like him. He says Spence would require several more fights to raise his fighting level and sharpen his skills.
Sanchez disagrees. He expects Spence to dominate and beat up Garcia. He says Spence should be the last fighter Garcia would even consider stepping in the ring with.
"Danny can't handle Spence. Danny needs to stay way from Spence. Danny gets stopped by Spence just like Algieri did," Sanchez said.
Spence is very close to a mandatory title shot under the IBF. On August 21st, Spence will fight Leonard Bundu in a final eliminator for a crack at current IBF champion Kell Brook, who is heading into a fall unification with WBO champion Jessie Vargas.
In terms of Brook, Sanchez would like to see Spence take a few more fights before going in that direction - but he expects Brook to vacate his title and move up to 154-pounds by the time Spence gets to that level.
"Let me say this, I hope that fight doesn't happen for Errol's sake. I think he needs a couple of more fights before fighting Kell. But that's a heck of a fight. I think Kell vacates and moves up. I think he's growing, I think he's having issues making 147 and there are greener pastures at 154," Sanchez said.
