Boasting a perfect record of 33-0 (30KOs) and having knocked out his last 20 opponents, Gennady Golovkin is undoubtedly at the top of his game. The unbeaten boxer from Kazakhstan has gained universal recognition as the best middleweight on the planet, a status that will be further enhanced should he get past David Lemieux in their Pay-Per-View headliner on October 17 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
If there's anything potentially standing in his way in the future, it's Father Time. While showing no signs of slowing down, Golovkin is 33 years old and enjoyed a lengthy amateur career before turning pro in 2010.
It stands to reason that at some point it could catch up to the decorated amateur and pro, who claimed Olympic silver for Kazakhstan in 2004 and owns a slew of middleweight belts. For now, he's enjoying his time in the spotlight and firmly believes there is still plenty more to come.
"I feel great, I feel like I’m 20 years old," Golovkin insisted during a recent media conference call to discuss the upcoming PPV event. "Look at Bernard Hopkins. He’s 50 years old, He looks like he’s 30, a very smart guy."
Whoever comes out on top in the October 17 unification bout will be in line to challenge the winner of the November 21 World middleweight championship clash between Miguel Cotto and Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez.
