Abel Sanchez, trainer of IBF, WBC, IBO, WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs), believes Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya, who promotes Mexican star Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs), is looking for a reason to avoid a September fight.

Golovkin, who two weeks won a twelve round unanimous decision over Daniel Jacobs, is now looking to fight on June 10 in Kazakhstan.

The target opponent for that date is WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders (24-0, 12 KOs) of the UK.

De La Hoya has warned Golovkin, that if he moves forward with a planned fight in June - then a September fight with Canelo is off the table. He feels strongly that a June fight will create too much risk in promoting a big September pay-per-view event.

Canelo himself has to take care of business on May 6th, when he moves up to a catch-weight of 164.5-pounds to face countryman Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Sanchez is not paying any attention to De La Hoya's threat. He feels the Golden CEO is just looking for a way to delay the fight.

"I think we spoke when Eubank did his shenanigans. There are a lot of different ways to turn down a fight. You don't have to say that you don't want the fight, but there are a lot of different ways to turn it down. Chris Eubank Sr. found another way, and Oscar has now mentioned three or four ways on the internet. I just have to allow [Golovkin's promoter] Tom [Loeffler] and the Golden Boy to come to an agreement and hopefully they will fight. They can make all of the excuses that they want, but the fact is Golovkin is ready and Canelo seems not to be," Sanchez told BaylorIC Worldwide-TV.
