WBA/IBO/IBF middleweight champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (34-0, 31KOs) is planning to be ringside as a very interested observer on May 7th, when Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (46-1-1, 32KOs) defends his WBC title against Amir Khan (31-3, 19KOs) at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

As the current hold of the WBC's interim title, Golovkin is the mandatory challenger to the Canelo-Khan winner.

Golovkin will first defend his title against IBF mandatory challenger Dominic Wade on April 23rd at The Forum in Los Angeles, California.

Canelo is a massive favorite to win his fight against Khan, who is moving up by eight pounds to make the bout at a catch-weight of 155.

BoxingScene asked Golovkin for his thoughts on Canelo-Khan - a fight that came out of nowhere when promoters officially announced it two weeks ago. Golovking views it as a 'business fight' - a term which usually refers to a contest when two known fighters come together to make a lot of money, but there is usually only one outcome anticipated.

"I think this is a business plan, a business fight. Thank you very much to HBO and my team because I bring a true fight...not just my fight but a true event. And Chocolotito Gonzalez is on the same day as me. This is a good gift, a good gift to people, a good bonus," Golovkin told BoxingScene.com.

The winner of Canelo-Khan must face Golovkin in the fall, at the full middleweight limit of 160-pounds, or risk losing the WBC title. If either fighter refuses to face Golovkin, then the knockout artist from Khazakstan will become the full champion.
