Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (48-1-1, 32KOs) may have a fight on his hands. On Saturday night he called out Gennady Golovkin (32-0, 29KOs) and dared the dangerous middleweight to move up to 168-pounds.
After watching Golovkin's win over Martin Murray, where the Kazakh puncher retained his WBC-interim/IBO/WBA titles with an eleventh round stoppage, he feels very confident about his chances to win. Chavez will return on April 18th, when he faces Polish light heavyweight contender Andrzej Fonfara.
"Without his power, [Golovkin] is not that good a fighter. I'd bet 'GGG' a million dollars from the purse that I would knock him out if we fought in my weight division. But first I have to beat Andrzej Fonfara, who is bigger and stronger," Chavez stated.
Top Rank had tried to make a fight between Chavez and Golovkin last June 2014. Promotional issues came up between Top Rank and Chavez - and now the two are involved in a legal battle.
Golovkin's promoter, Tom Loeffler, responded with - "[Golovkin] accepts that bet, sign the contract this time."
