Golden Boy Promotions President Eric Gomez said that the most important thing for Canelo Alvarez's team right now is to make the rematch against Gennady Golovkin.

Last Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Canelo and Golovkin fought to a controversial twelve round draw.

The focus by both teams - is now a May 2018 rematch. Canelo (49-1-2, 34 KOs) has the ability to exercise a rematch clause against Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs), who holds the WBC, IBO, IBF, WBA middleweight world titles.

Gomez indicates that Canelo and his team are in no way ducking the idea of a second fight.

Because Golovkin is 35 years old and he will be 36 by the time a second fight comes around.

Due to his increased age, Gomez doubts Golovkin can improve and get any better. On the other hand, Canelo is still very young at 27 years old and continues to improve as his career plays out.

"We want the rematch, it's what Canelo wants, it's what the team wants. Fans want the rematch. In boxing there is no extra time, just imagine if the fight had gone to 15 rounds. But it can not be done. So let's do the tiebreaker - it's what we want, "said Gomez.

"Golovkin was a stronger, bigger fighter and he connected three or four times very hard on Canelo. I was worried but Canelo held up very well. At no moment did he do any harm to Canelo. On the contrary, I think Canelo hurt Golovkin two or three times. Once to the body and twice he staggered [from head shots]. That surprised me."

"I know Canelo has to fine-tune some things. He can't stay on the ropes, and he must get on the inside and fight more at a short distance. When he fought at a short distance, Golovkin did not look very good. Golovkin can no longer improve."

"It is unfair [that we are being blamed for the draw]. Golovkin is not only the victim, Canelo is the victim and also Golden Boy Promotions is the victim. We promised a great fight and it was. I have not yet heard a single person say that it was not a good fight."
