Golden Boy Promotions president Eric Gomez revealed to Golpe a Golpe that his company is already in negotiations for a potential 2018 rematch between Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin, with tentative dates in March and May.

Gomez, who promotes Canelo made it clear that nothing will stand in the way of this highly anticipated second match between two of the best pound for pound fighters in the world.

Last weekend at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Canelo and Golovkin - who holds the IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight belts - fought to a controversial twelve round split draw.

The main point of controversy in the fight - is related to the issue with the wide 118-110 scorecard that was issued in favor of Canelo. The other two cards were 115-113 for Golovkin and 114-114 for the draw.

The most likely date for the rematch is the first week of May, on Cinco De Mayo weekend. Canelo does not plan to fight again until May, but there is a slight possibility of the fight taking place in March.

"We've already began talking a little with Gennady's people, with Tom Loeffler, who is the promoter of Golovkin. We started talking and I think it could happen in May. May is a good date for pay-per-view in the United States, but we are not ruling out March. It's about looking at the details that we all agree on," Gomez said.

"In my opinion, I saw Canelo win, I gave him the first three rounds, he loosened up a little too much from 4 to 8, but I gave him as the sixth when he hurt Golovkin and the last three he closed very strong. Many fans and the press said the draw was good... there are people who say that GGG won, that Canelo won. I was surprised that there are many who think the draw is a fair result, and it was a great fight between two very good fighters that deserve the tiebreaker."
