31-year-old Ukrainian heavyweight Vyacheslav "Czar" Glazkov (21-0-1, 13KOs), is now in Krasnodar preparing for his next fight.
According to the manager Egis Klimas, Glazkov his client is under serious consideration to face WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (35-0, 34KOs), who returns on January 16th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Glazkov is the IBF's mandatory challenger to unified champion Wladimir Klitschko. There is no guarantee on when or where Glazkov will receive that shot. Klitschko is already making a mandatory defense in two weeks, to satisfy the WBO/WBA, when he faces Tyson Fury and will likely receive an optional after that.
The upcoming voluntary defense by Wilder is approved by the WBC. The winner between Wilder and whoever ends up facing him, will be required to fight mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin next.
"We want to get this fight. It looks like Glazkov is one of the candidates for the fight against Wilder. We have not signed anything yet and we do not have a contract, but Vyacheslav's promoter Kathy Duva told me that they are negotiating. But if we have the opportunity to have such a fight, we would of course like to use it," Klimas said.
