Ukrainian fighter Vyacheslav "Czar" Glazkov, who won a bronze medal for his country in the 2008 Olympics, is following through with his desire to gain Russian citizenship.
Last September, former four division world champion Roy Jones Jr. gained citizenship is Russia with the approval of country President Vladimir Putin.
According to Glazkov's co-promoter Cyril Pchelnikov, the boxer will more than likely carry the Russian flag when he enters the ring for the most important fight of his career, when he faces Charles Martin for the vacant IBF heavyweight championship on January 16th at the Barclays Center in New York.
"More than likely, he will go under the Russian flag. We are talking about this, but I think it will be so," Pchelnikova said.
But according to the fighter's manager, Egis Klimas, the 31-year-old fighter has yet to apply for Russian citizenship.
Glazkov gained the world title opportunity after Tyson Fury, who acquired the belt from Wladimir Klitschko in November, was stripped of his belt for refusing to make a mandatory defense against Glazkov.
