Giovanni Segura: I Won't Underestimate Ivan Calderon

Ivan "Iron Boy" Calderon, junior flyweight champion of the World Boxing Organization (WBO), will unify his title with the champion of the World Boxing Association (WBA), Mexico's Giovanni Segura, on the 28th of August at the Coliseo Mario "Quijote" Morales in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico and will be broadcast on "Pay Per View" under a promotion of PR Best Boxing Promotions (PRBBP).

Calderon (34-0-1 and six KOs), former WBO champ at 105 pounds, will present his belt for the seventh time at 108 pounds against Segura, a strong puncher with a record of 24-1 and 20 knockouts.

In a recent interview with the newspaper Primera Hora, published Tuesday, Giovani Segura gave Calderon praise, but says that he has studied his opponent and will not make any costly mistakes.

"Many have underestimated him. Calderón's success has not been because his style, but because of his intelligence and experience, which is how you take control of the fight," Segura said. "Logic says that Calderón will try to dodge my shots, so for his style of boxing I will have to cut off the ring ... I'm in a similar situation."

"Everyone says you should try to box against me because I dont have a lot of experience, but once you get hit, things are different ... Calderon has a quick style, plus he's smart and knows how to get out of distress. This fight will be about more than my punch, it will be a battle of intelligence. Whatever I know about boxing, I will try to implement it."

Tickets for this event, which will feature other exciting bouts to be announced, are available in Ticketcenter by calling 787 792-5000 or by accessing the page www.tcpr.com .

I also fight (amateur) at the azteca boxing club where segura fights out of and hes looking STRONG! Hes working with Lusilo who is a dope ass combination maestro here. He hasnt been with Lusilo for the past 2 fights dont know y but the only problem i have with segura is his work ethic. He trains ...
Yeah but segura hits harder and is younger and fresher than cazares
He "might" hit harder, he doesn't stay fresher, and though Segura is younger, Cazarez has better boxing skills. Segura better train extra hard and run plenty, he's in a tough spot and needs the best...
I have more than a feeling that this will be Calderon's first loss by a brutal KO. His streak and luck ends against a killer like Segura.
put you money where your mouth is. lets go all in

I expect Calderon to outbox Segura, but Segura can win it. He just can't let it go to the cards.
Yeah but segura hits harder and is younger and fresher than cazares
You might be correct on your assesment and the fact that Calderon has seemedto slow down could do him in finally. We'll just have to wait and see wich will be overpowering, seguras youth and power or ...
