Giovani Segura Returns on 11/10, Denies Zanfer Link

By Miguel Rivera

WBA/WBO junior flyweight champion Giovani Segura (28-2-1, 24KOs) is going to return on November 10th in Mexico, which is going to be his first fight under his promotional deal with Hector Garcia of HG Boxing.

A few days ago, Segura's promotional status was under dispute. Promoter Fernando Beltran of Zanfer Promotions was quoted by several sources as stating that his company was still holding a valid claim to Segura. According to Beltran, Segura's deal was extended because the fighter hasn't fought since suffering injuries in his TKO defeat to Brian Viloria in December 2011.

Segura denies that there any contractual obligations remaining to Zanfer. The only contract he was under, with Top Rank, expired in April of this year. After he lost to Viloria, the Mexican states that Top Rank never contacted him again.

"I have no contract with Zanfer. The only relationship which I contend is with my lawyer and partner (Gustavo Callejas), as well as with Mr Héctor García," Segura stated.
