Budding lightweight contender Mercito ‘No Mercy’ Gesta (26-0-1, 14 KO's) is settling into his training camp in the mountains of Big Bear, California.

Having been in the area for a little over a week, Gesta is preparing for the challenge of IBF champion Miguel Vazquez (32-3, 13 KO's) on the televised pay per view undercard portion on the Manny Pacquiao-Juan Manuel Marquez IV event at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Dec. 8.

Gesta and his team are training out of Abel Sanchez’s Summit Gym, the same facility that has been used by Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Miguel Cotto in recent times.

Gesta hits the gym from 12 to 2 pm while Sanchez oversees his talented stable afterwards, including undefeated junior lightweight prospect Joel Diaz Jr., welterweight contender Carson Jones, and WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin.

Gesta’s trainer and co-manager Vince Parra advised me on Friday that they will be bringing in undefeated junior lightweight prospect Ranches Barthelemy into camp for sparring on November 16 as they make their final training push.

Barthelemy trains out of Las Vegas under the watchful eye of veteran trainer and cut man Miguel Diaz and he is eyeing a January return of his own against Arash Usmanee.

The lanky Cuban has a few similar traits to Vazquez and he should give Gesta some lively work, as evidenced by past sparring sessions of his in the Vegas area.

Expect exclusive coverage from Gesta’s Big Bear training today.

*** For Chris Robinson's exclusive video coverage from this weekend's HBO double header in Vegas, including one on ones with Bob Arum, Fernando Vargas, Harold Lederman, and Robert Garcia, plus Mikey Garcia and Vanes Martirosyan training footage, as well as Weigh-in footage, and James Prince calling out 50 Cent, please check out his Martirosyan-Lara / Garcia-Barros Playlist as well as his other playlists below...

This should be a tossup bout. Winner gets his ass whooped by Broner, especially if it's Gesta.

Gesta has to impose his power on vazquez, he won't beat vasquez boxing. He has to make it a brawl like what mares did. Problem is he has horrible cardio. It all depends on what gesta can do to make it his fight because we already know what vasquez is going to do and that is to box and move.

This is Gesta's best shot, Vazquez is a low power counter puncher. Gesta is no ball of fire himself, but if Vazquez has to come to him, Gesta's chances grow exponentially. I think Gesta has a small edge here, but only because Vazquez might not have the strength to hold him off. The down side is, ...
