IBF middleweight champion Daniel Geale appeared on the most recent edition of BoxingScene Radio to talk to us about his upcoming fight against Darren Barker which will mark his debut on U.S. soil. He also spoke to us about potential opponents he may face in the future.
If Geale is successful on Saturday, he will likely have to face his mandatory challenger Felix Sturm in his next fight. The fight would be a rematch of Geale's split decision victory over Sturm last September that took place in Germany. Geale said if they are to meet again he wants the rematch to take place in his home country of Australia.
"That could possibly happen. I'm not too worried about fighting him again. I felt like I dominated the fight the first time. I guess it would have to work out with my management (in regards to) where the best place would be. It would most likely be in Australia," Geale stated.
We also asked Geale if he would be interest in unifying titles with WBO champion Peter Quillin. Geale said that he is very open to facing him and that he would have no problem with the fight taking place in U.S. which is Quillin's home soil.
"If my team feels that it is the right fight I would be more than happy to fight him. Peter is really good. I would be happy to face him in the U.S." Geale told BoxingScene Radio.
When asked for a prediction, the 31-year-old said that the fans can expect the same high work rate they have grown accustomed to seeing in his fights. He also said that he hopes to continue his career in the U.S.
"You can expect what you have seen in previous fights. I will be aggressive and there will be plenty of punches thrown. I will have a high work rate but you will see a few changes. I feel a lot stronger.
"I voiced my opinion and said that I would like to go back to the US in my next fight. Like we talked about earlier I have my mandatory to take care of and I hope I can so it here," said Geale.
